A True Purple Revolution?
Posted April 17, 2007
Since the 2000 election fiasco, parties have had their color designations set. The rainbow colors red and blue got taken, and to not leave any states uncolored, somebody came up with purple for iffy states. Plus the Green Party nabbed up green, though they were not on the map.
There are still a few colors left in the box, and no other takers so far, so a party probably need not worry about winding up in teal or mauve someday for not bothering to claim one. Still, if there is to be a grand inclusive minarchist party one day, it would be good for those who identify with it to identify with a color.
There may be more in a color to rally around this century than ever. In Eurasia, what with these color-coded revolutions of late (Rose, Orange, ... ), a simple color feeds into the brain as nonviolent defiance to ruling parties, and could do so in North America too. Any party that seriously challenges the ruling parties of the States is attempting nothing less than an overturn of the status quo - a regular color revolution.
The Greens just might be onto something here, ... but what color for the likes of us? Gold or silver would seem apt for those scornful of fiat money, but are there such lustrous colors in the box? Settle for yellow?
White? Grey? I would think neutral colors would just be too bland for anybody but a centrist, unless it's black. Brown? Too fascist! Would orange be too close to red for us to triangulate with? Is green too blue-like, or do we attempt to wrest green from the socialist enviornmentalists?
I suggest we override this cute "Purple States" talk, let candy grape purple mean more freedom / less government, and let libertarian leaners, reddish, bluish and blandish, marble together under a purple banner.
All libery, rallying as one with the libertarianish, should settle for nothing less than the purple revolution that never was, or some color revolution, and right here at home.
If a truly inclusive libertarian party to be reckoned with is to emerge in our time, it's just got to wield a strong color. 7 Comments
