The Lesser of Two Evils Dilemma

Many people like what the LP candidates have to say, but still vote against said candidates, because they don't believe such candidates can win so they want to use their vote to affect the race between the RP and DP candidates.

Even worse, many libertarian oppose having a Libertarian Party because having such a party splits the libertarian vote. This is a real concern; we cannot just rationalize it away. We who support the third party approach must come up with a real answer to this objection.

One possibility is to position the LP equally distant from the RP and DP. This is covered elsewhere in theory/positioning.

But there are other strategies to be consiered...

A Realistic Vision of Victory by Carl S. Milsted Jr.. Even with a reformed platform, and organization, the LP has a long way to go before it can run credible presidential candidates. Here is a much more reasonable milestone to shoot for, one which definitely moves our government in a libertarian direction.
