Attack or Die
Perhaps it is time to open up another front.

The state of our party is grim. Every election is another routine disaster for Libertarians, and I am worried about the government my grandchildren will inherit. I am also damn tired of losing and looking for a better approach. It is time to take the gloves off and win the fight.
In November, the dogs barked but the wagon train kept rolling on. Just about everyone in the country was angry or apathetic because of the corrupt, self-serving control freaks who dominate both the left and right wings, but the overwhelming majority of voters endorsed the Democrats or Republicans according to their individual perceptions of the lesser of those two evils.
The public was desperately seeking an attractive alternative, but we once again failed to capitalize on an opportunity. We have a superior product but do a poor job of selling it to a public which has been indoctrinated by the media and government school teachers with the belief that a huge, intrusive government is the best solution to every problem.
We have some articulate spokespersons on radio and TV talk shows, but we have almost run off one of our best, Neal Boortz, because of disputes over the best ways “to provide for the common defense.” We have candidates, staff, and volunteers who work long hours, but we are still perceived as druggies, losers, libertines, and/or kooks, and we routinely lose elections. It has been said of us that trying to organize Libertarians is like trying to herd cats.
In an attempt to help, I endorsed the party in my book, Big Government…Poor Grandchildren, in which I used the financial self-interest approach to explain to our prospects why our programs are the best. I also made a suggestion on my website on how we can simultaneously raise money, promote our principles, and energize our supporters and staff.
Suggestion: My only idea right now is drawn from military history. It appears to me that we are pinned down by superior political firepower in static trench warfare and will have to open a new front if we ever expect to win. (Google Inchon and Anzio for examples of the situation and the solution.) We need to pick one specific, dramatic target and focus 75% of our energies in a serious attack on it. We need to commit to the objective of winning one winnable issue, and it is not like diverting any of our attention in any new direction is going to cause us to lose any more elections than we are already losing.
I suggest that we may have superior judicial firepower with the two latest Supreme Court Justices. I suggest that we sue the Executive Branch of the Federal Government to force it to stop operating an unconstitutional (Amendment 10) monopoly children indoctrination program. Using that legal action as a platform, we can get free airtime on radio and TV to explain why all of our programs are better.
Do we open a new front or die talking to each other in our cold, wet foxholes? 1 Comments
