Libertarian Reform PAC
Supporting and Promoting the Libertarian Reform Caucus
The Libertarian Reform PAC was formed in order to have a legal vehicle to raise
money to promote and otherwise support the Libertarian Reform Caucus.
The money raised by the PAC is for the following possible purposes:
- Advertising the caucus in the Libertarian media, such as Liberty, LP News, Reason and assorted web sites.
- Advertising beyond the core Libertarian media to see what interest there
is by non-party members. National Review and High Times might be examples.
- Renting tables at LP convention(s), and printing literature to go on said
tables.
- Renting space at the next convention to be able to hold our caucus in
person and officially decide on our course of action.
- Renting mailing lists and doing direct mail to Libertarians and/or delegates.
Which of these are done will depend on the amount of money raised. As of mid
March 2006, the money has been used to buy ads in LP News, Liberty,
Reason, reason.com, and qando.net. (Web hosting expenses and some google
ad words have been provided as an in kind contribution to the PAC by the
webmaster.)
Donations raised by this site have been used for action! You are not paying
for overhead, office space, or salaries.
Why a PAC?
For the most part, setting up a PAC is overkill for what we are doing. We could
use a 527 organization to do most of our work. However, we did need a PAC
in order to legally write checks to the Libertarian Party. This is necessary
for putting ads in LP News and may be useful for renting lists of delegates
and table
space at the convention.
The only problem with a PAC is that is does limit our contributions to
individuals, and there is an annual contribution limit of
$5000/year per individual.
(There is also a biennial limit on total federal contributions you can make to all PACs/parties of $57,500.)
If these limits are holding you back, let's talk! We could set up a 527 to take
big contributions
to use for advertising outside of LP News.
