The Libertarian National Committee is meeting this upcoming weekend in Baltimore. On the agenda is the task of choosing the LNC’s portion of the Platform Committee. (The other committee members are chosen by the ten largest states.)
The Bylaws read:
The Platform Committee shall consist of 20 members selected as follows:
One member by each of the ten affiliate parties having the largest memberships as determined for Convention delegate allocations. These members shall be selected no later than the last day of the fifth month prior to the Regular Convention.
Ten members appointed by the National Committee, including no less than five members from states other than the ten having the largest Party memberships. These members shall be appointed no later than the last day of the fifth month prior to the Regular Convention.
It would be great if several Libertarian Reform Caucus members were to get on the Platform Committee! If you wish to be on the Platform Committee, please contact one or more LNC members of your wish. I suggest you contact at least your Regional Representative, your Regional Alternate, the Secretary, and the Chair. Let us know as well and we will put in a good word for you. (Contact webmaster(a)reformthelp.org and I will notify the other board members.)
Libertarian Reform PAC Launched
In order to further promote the Caucus, we need to advertise. In order to be on solid ground with the FEC, we decided to form a PAC for this purpose. (A 527 organization cannot legally make a donation to a political party, and an ad purchase in LP News constitutes a political contribution to the Libertarian Party.)
So, if you want to see the Caucus grow, and have some spare dollars to support some advertising, please consider sending a donation to the PAC. Go to www.reformthelp.org/home/donate for a donation form and address for sending donations.
Let me reiterate, however: membership in the Caucus is still free. Donation to the supporting PAC is purely optional. If many of you send small contributions, or a few of you send big contributions, then we can afford respectable sized advertisements in publications like LP News, Liberty, and Reason. If we only get a small amount of small contributions, then we will have to settle for small ads in such publications.
On the other hand, if the money really pours in, then we can go beyond the core libertarian publications to publications that have a large number of libertarian-leaning readers.
What publications are those?
Good question. This would make a good essay topic. If you have a strong opinion on the subject, perhaps you could write an essay for the Caucus area of the site.
