It is not the job of government to buoy up the economy. Pumping tax money into businesses that are not succeeding only makes them dependent, and keeps more efficient, often smaller, competitors out of the market, as does regulation. Moreover, regulation encourages an appetite to control government on the part of corporations. Politically motivated trade agreements cause imbalances in the market, often with unexpected negative consequences.
