Government Waste

This proposal tackles the popular issue of wasteful government spending head-on.

by Stephen Bach

Issues: The government improperly manages the money of taxpayers. The government wastes money and is a poor steward of American money.

Principles: The government exists to serve the interest of all people. Government waste, or “pork,” is irresponsible and takes taxpayers’ money and uses it for unnecessary expenditures that benefit a small number of people, often limited to a small geographical area.

Solutions: We call for the end to all congressional expenditures that are not “necessary and proper” for the execution of its Constitutional powers. The federal government should not use its power to unfairly favor certain regions or segments of the country. We call upon the president to veto any law that does not meet these criteria.

Benefits: Cutting government waste will decrease the federal budget and allow the federal debt to be paid off. Also, a lower federal budget would allow for tax cuts, which would both benefit working class and lower income families, while stimulating our economy.

Author's Comments

This is a popular issue to campaign on, and it is important to Libertarians as well. The platform should address it directly.
